安倍晋三首相は10日、都内のホテルで開かれた自民党大会で演説し、春の統一地方選と夏の参院選が重なる「亥（い）年」選挙を前に、
前回の亥年選挙で参院選に敗北した経緯に触れ、「（その後）あの悪夢のような民主党政権が誕生した。あの時代に戻すわけにはいかない」と、強い口調で呼びかけた。
首相は、第1次安倍政権の時に行われた12年前の亥年選挙を振り返り、「参院選の惨敗は当時総裁だった私の責任。
片時たりとも忘れたことはない。わが党の敗北で政治は安定を失い、決められない政治となり、経済も失速した」と指摘した。
「（今回も）厳しい戦いになるが、まなじりを決して戦い抜く。その先頭に立つ決意だ」と述べ、統一地方選についても「力を合わせて勝ち抜こう」と訴えた。
